Match Reports 11-12

Mid-Somerset A 4 Yeovil & Sherborne C 5

Mid-Somerset 2nds are fast gaining a reputation for entertaining hockey with 23 goals being scored in their last three games. Whilst a 5-4 scoreline worked in their favour two weeks ago, Mids came off second best against Yeovil and Sherborne on this occasion. Yeovil established a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes thanks to hard-hitting short corners. Mids fought back and Dan Young pulled a goal back just before half-time, flicking in from a rebound off the goalkeeper.

The second-half saw a flurry of goals with Yeovil extending the lead before being pulled back to 3-3 with crafty penalty corner flicks by Dave Barber. Three further goals followed, with Barber completing his hat-trick for Mids, but to no avail as the two which went Yeovil’s way decided the game in favour of the visitors.

Minehead 2nd XI 4 Mid-Somerset 2nd XI 5

This was a match of heart-stopping incident throughout and after George Rockell scored the winner in the dying moments of the game Mids were able to travel home euphoric whilst Minehead could only contemplate what might have been. The game started with Mids in surprisingly fine fettle after their long journey. The speed with which they approached the game caught the home side very much off guard and Jake Connuck fired in a hat-trick of goals within 20 minutes. His first came from the penalty-stroke spot. He had earned the penalty himself with a crisp shot which was stopped by a defender’s chest on the line. The second and third goals were from open play, the second from a cross, the third an intricate passing movement involving several players. Amazingly and to their credit, Minehead were unfazed by the three goal deficit and fought back with four goals before half-time. Poor concentration by Mids led to their lead being whittled away until, by half-time, it was Mids who were behind.

The second-half was an evenly-matched affair with both sides producing chances. Mids’ pressure, mid-way through the half, led to a penalty-corner from which Connuck scored the equalizer – and his fourth. His well-struck drag-flick fizzed past the goalkeeper in an instant. Then, just when both sides were settling for a hard-earned draw, Dave Barber’s free hit from outside the home side’s D found Rockell who slid the ball in at the near post with the goalkeeper anticipating a cross. Both sides deserve credit for their determination to never give in and to provide such an entertaining and spirited game.

Match Reports 10-11

Mid Somerset A 3 Teign 3 16th October 2010

Mids were determined to come away with the win against 2nd in the table Teign following their recent success but the visitors were of the same mindset. Mids started strong with an early goal from Dave Lenard which was chipped past the keeper. Teign seemed to take offence from this lower placed team getting one up on them, but this was something they would have to deal with as the match continued. Teign were awarded a short corner and slotted it through Will Mandills legs who were nominated goal keeper due to the absence of the regular. Although the defensive team of Connor Edwards, Alex Mitchell, Rob Holland and Cameron Dunn were giving as good as they got Teign managed to slip through them again to obtain a 2nd goal. Some slick passing from Mids saw Ryan French drill the ball straight past the clueless keeper which levelled things up. Mids were awarded a short which was deflected off the line back to Cameron Dunn who wouldn't allow that to happen again and the score was now 3-2. Mids gave everything to try to hold onto their lead but thanks to some questionable control of the ball on their line from the opposition they managed to scramble an equaliser before the end. Mids face East Devon next week and hope to continue their unbeaten streak.

Mid Somerset A 4 Minehead 1 9th
October 2010

Mids made the long trip to Minehead aiming to come back with another 3 points. Dave Lenard opened up the scoring with a great slotted ball from the narrowest of angles. The second goal came courtesy of Ollie on his debut for 2nds after Rob Holland drilled the ball down the line to find Dave who then skinned a Minehead defender before making the cross for a first time hit to bottom corner from Ollie. Mids were continuing the barrage and a 3rd goal came soon after thanks to a free hit where again Disco Dave was on the end to spin and shoot and make the score 3-0 at half time. As is characteristic of Mids they failed to keep up the pace at the beginning of the 2nd half and this gave Minehead the opportunity to get on the scoreboard, 3-1. However Minehead failed to show any real threat to Mids who once again made light work of the oppositions defence. A hit into the opponents D found its way to top quality sweeper Graham Miller who ensured Mids victory 4-1. Mids are at home to 2nd in the table Teign and are hoping to keep up their winning streak.

Mid Somerset A – 5 ECV Hornets C – 4 2nd October 2010

Following Mids disappointing start to the season losing to Yeovil and Sherborne they knew they needed a win at home against the Hornet’s. From the whistle Mids struck hard resulting in a goal from Dave Lenard within 40 seconds. Hornet’s retaliated within minutes managing to slot a shot into the bottom left hand corner. This only spurred Mids on to launch 2 more devastating manoeuvres which found Lenard on the end of both thus obtaining his hat trick thanks to some precision passing by Matt Carter and Piers Tincknell . At half time Mids were sitting comfortably on their 2 goal lead but as with most good things it wouldn’t last long, the visitor’s came out the second half a completely different side. A savage lifted shot landed squarely on Rob Holland’s rib cage presented the opposition with a chance to score with a short corner. They didn’t let this opportunity escape them either and the score was now 3-2. Mids were still confident that their goal cushion would see them through to the end, that was until Hornet’s struck again making it 3-3. The sudden realisation that this wasn’t going to be a walk over rallied Mids to counter attack. Some impressive passing from Miller and Will Mandil saw Will score his first goal of this season but he didn’t stop there his second goal screamed past the keeper from the top of the D. With time ticking down it was just a matter of holding them off till the final whistle blew and thanks to some valiant defending from Connor Edwards and Cameron Dunn the home side managed to hold on to the victory despite conceding one final goal. Mids head off to Minehead this week to hopefully claim another victory.

Match Reports 09-10

Mid Somerset A – 1 East Devon B – 2 (13th March 2010)

After last week’s disappointing home game to Yeovil and Sherborne Mids looked to come away from Devon with restored pride and a solid base to build upon for the last game of the season on the 20th in Wells. In a practical, but somewhat clunky start to the game Mids set about achieving that goal, and managed to take the lead through an excellent drag-flicked short corner courtesy of Andy Rogers. It didn't take long for the gremlins from last week to return however, and their lead was soon cut short when a Devon player was allowed time and space at the top of the D to line a shot up and fire through the crowd beating the unsighted Matt Reay in goal. Things didn't improve much in the second half, and although Mids had some chances to pinch the points it was the midfield where the problems stemmed, and on too many occasions Mids gave the away the ball far too cheaply, and to make matters worse there was little drive to regain possession. Mids lost the 3 points only 5 minutes from the final whistle when a long ball from Devon was deemed to have been struck too well; the defence left it and a Devon player pounced to twist the knife and kill the game.

Mid Somerset A – 0 Yeovil and Sherborne C – 3 (6th March 2010)

Mids' impressive run of five back-to-back wins came to a crashing halt on Saturday when the twelve men from Yeovil and Sherborne managed to net the ball no less than three times in the opening 15 minutes, which to all intense and purposes killed off the game. It was evident that Mids sorely missed Andy Rogers at the back where the trouble stemmed, but despite his absence something else was missing in the rest of the team - their voices were silenced and their composure knocked by the trio of early goals.

Mids reshuffled the side at half time and looked the better for it, but the damage was done, and despite not conceding any more they were unable to strike back, and even a consolation goal proved too much. The performance is one to put behind them as they travel to East Devon next week where they must regain some pride and maintain their pressure on the leading group. Man of the match was awarded to Tom Grove for his defensive duties in the second half.

Mid Somerset A- 6 Ottery St Mary Crickets- 3 (28th February 2010 Push Back 15:00)

Mid Somerset travelled all the way to North Devon for this rearranged fixture, with the exception of Harris who almost went much further. Mids started brightly and scored straight away with Miller finding the backboard after rounding his defender with considerable skill and striking the ball cleanly. More was to follow with Whitfield coolly slotting home a one-on-one. Ottery then scored on the break before Mids again found the net via Thorner. Just before half-time Miller's "athletic prowess" failed him and he was forced off, the injury could however have had something to do with the presence of several young female spectators on the bench. No matter, Mids continued to press in the second half and French drilled home from a short corner. Special mention must go to Dunn who majestically lofted the ball over the Reay in the Mids net after Ottery blasted one down the barrel from a short corner which took an unlucky deflection no one could do anything about. White and Thorner then combined to open Ottery up as for most part they dominated the centre channel. Hartley making his debut for the two's was then unlucky to concede a flick which Ottery duly converted via the help of the post. Harris then went on to grab a 6th but by then mids were home and dry. Man of the match was jointly awarded to Whitfield and captain Grove for his tenacious defending. Six points from six, and another step closer to the top. Mid's are now just three points off second place.

Mid Somerset A – 3 Isca – 2 (27th February 2010 Push Back 15:00)

Isac sit pretty second in the league, and have ruthlessly dispatched opposition this season, including an 8 - 2 drumming of Mids on their home turf at the start of the season. A lot has changed since then, and with Isca missing one or two key players the visitors sore the opportunity they needed, and were two up by half time courtesy of French, who absolutely nailed a hit across the D, and Lennard who has now notched up 7 goals in the last 3 games. Isca were never going to roll over however, and before long, with Mids looking troubled, they were controlling the centre of the pitch, and making life very uncomfortable for French, Burt and Mandil. The inevitable happened, and Isca pulled one back as they pressed forward with numbers. Mandil danced into their Isac D and slotted one home creating a little breathing space, but it was short lived, Isca came back and at 3 - 2 Mids hung on by the skin of their teeth. If it had not been for Rogers intercepting two shots on the goal line in the dying minutes or Dunn and Grove putting their bodies in the line of fire it could have all ended in tears.

Mid Somerset A 9 – Bridgwater B 4. (20th February 2010)
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->

Mids started strongly from the first whistle, and had large amounts of possession in the oppositions half, and were soon dictating play winning a few short corners in succession.  Bridgwater scrambled the ball off the line time and again, but the pressure paid off with Matt Pope opening Mids' account. Mids went two goals up courtesy of Lennard, and seemed to be well in control, when a defensive error led to the ball being deflected off a Mids' stick deceiving Matt Reay in goal, who had returned from injury was forced to make a diving save across the line, but with two Bridgwater players soon on the ball a scramble commenced and Mids were unable to keep the ball out.  The half ended 4 – 2 with errors at both ends making for a high scoring match.  Mids wobbled after the restart, and Bridgwater looked to still be in contention, but Mids quickly found their feet again and were soon playing some exceptional hockey. The move of the game was a four-touch-goal from a restart: Rob Newman played an ariel ball from within his own half to Matt Pope wide on the right, he found Lennard waiting at the top of the d who duly pounced rounding off a truly first class goal, and by doing so treated himself to his second hatrick in as many games. At the final whistle Mids where 9 – 4 up with further goals from Pope, who took four in his customary style, Will Mandil, and Steve Dowden who fired one into the roof of the net early on. Congratulations to Tom Grove, who was voted Man of the match.  Mids travel to Isca on Saturday and Ottery Crickets on Sunday, where they hope to maintain their good form and continue to climb up the table.

Mid Somerset A – 4 Vs. ECV Hornets C – 0 (13th February 2010)

Four goals with no reply from Hornets was a great result for the travelling Mids side, and without doubt the pick of the season with only a few left to play. Whether the space ECV gave Mids, or the lack of pace in the defence cost them greatest was hard to tell, but one thing was for sure, Mids worked hard as a team, and by doing so made the basics much easier. Mids scored twice in the first half through Dave Lennard and Ryan French who battered the ball through on his third attempt from a short corner. Lennard went out to secure his hatrick with an array of strikers goals, though notably the best coming from a clean move a number of players helped in.

Although Mids controlled most of the game, ECV did have one or two good chances on goal, but it seemed nothing was going to get passed Mid's stand-in keeper Lawrence Willoughby, who had a great game.

The strikers Lennard and Dowden got on the end of nearly every one of Andy Rogers' ariel balls, and worked hard to find the gaps. They were supported well by the midfield of Miller, French, Harris, Mandil, Thorner and Grove, who seemed to really click for the first time. Defensive wise, Burt took well to the new role at left back, and Dunn had a strong game. Rogers' stick moved to fast for the umpire’s eyes, but his composure and strength didn't go unnoticed by his peers.

Mids entertain Bridgwater next week at 1.30 and a result could see them climb to 5th still carrying that game in hand - why not come and watch?

Mid Somerset A 3 Vs. North Devon A 2 (6th February 2010)
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->

Following three successive draws in South East Division 2, Mid Somerset managed to record a home win against North Devon, just. A last minute goal from Tom Higgs following sustained pressure gave all three points to Mid Somerset in a game that they just about deserved to win. First half goals from Matt Pope and top sweeper in Graham Miller meant Mid Somerset never trailed North Devon, and went in to the halftime break leading by two goals to one. Mid Somerset now sit mid table on twenty points, and one or two more wins should secure them in this division for another season.

This week the seconds are away to Exeter Hornets who again are just above Mids in the table and are likely to be very strong being at home.

Mid Somerset A 2 Vs. Yeovil and Sherbourne C 2 (24th January 2010)

44 tired legs turned out on the pitch in Sherbourne on Sunday afternoon to take part in their second fixture over this busy weekend that had both teams playing two matches after the cold snap interrupted proceedings. It was however the 11 Y&S men who came out of the blocks the faster of the two teams and before Mids identified their key play makers they launched several attacks, coming close from two short corners after shots were deemed dangerous. It was Mids who drew the first blood however, when Simon Lord, who's movement into space off the ball made him the target man. Y&S pressed forward again and ten minutes later levelled the game before the half. Mids found better shape in the second half, but still lacked imagination in the final third, and found themselves under the cosh from '58' as it would often take more than one player to stall his progress. Dunn send Miller down the wing who found White, then Lord who beat two before giving Lennard a sight of goal - he pounced and Mids regained the league. Y&S came back at them and earned another short corner and with a vicious strike they found the backboard this time to square the game two all.

Mid Somerset ‘A’ 1 - Chard A 1 (16th January 2010 Push Back 14:30)

Mids travelled to Chard to play their first game in five weeks after a long run of cancelled matched over the Christmas period that has played havoc with the league fixtures. Mids got off to a promising start and kept Chard on the back-foot for the best part of the opening 20 minutes, but they countered after a Mids short corner, and with no more than a couple of passes their forward had turned his opposite number in the box and found space to slot home a goal through the legs of Burnell. Half time came and went, and Mids still trailed by a goal and it looked like Chard's defence were going to continue to prevent the equaliser at all cost, with some very 'robust' tackling on Lennard who they knew posed the biggest threat. Lennard had the last laugh when he equalised late in the second half to square the match: Rogers had chucked an aerial ball down the left to Dowden, who beat his man and hit a diagonal ball into the path of Lennard who duly obliged. Mids play catch-up next week and play twice on the weekend - see them at home on Saturday when they face Minehead.

Taunton Vale C 4 Mid Somerset A 2 (12th December Push Back 14:30)

Mids travelled back to Taunton for the second consecutive week, this time to face Vale who currently tops the league table. The hosts started well and immediately created chances, getting shots away at every opportunity, and unfortunately for Burnell between the Mids sticks, it will be a day not to remember; three goals came before the half ended, and all were soft... if ever there was a mountain to climb!

Mids had however learnt by the break that more movement off the ball was sorely needed, and if a Vale player could 'get a stick on it' he would, and they started to play the ball around and down the wings where they found some success. The visitors won the second half scoring through young Will Mandil (man of the match) with a clean strike from just inside the centre of the D, and Graham Miller who latched onto the end of a nice move down the right. Only the one goal came for Vale in the second half which wrapped up a 4 - 2 and ensured they start the New Year at the top of the tree.

Taunton C.S A – 5 Mid Somerset A – 2 (5th December Push Back 13:30)

After last week’s convincing win for the Mids two's they travelled down to Taunton, with hopes of upsetting the title chasers this week. After setting about the game with a positive style, they managed to get their noses ahead through Dave Lennard, and for a spell it looked like it might have been their day. Unfortunately, the goal was to be a turning point, and attacking with pace and conviction Taunton hit back scoring twice from open play, then, following a very questionable umpiring decision, their third goal came from a very well struck short-corner. Mids responded before the half ended, this time Callum Thorner after he latched onto a loose ball in the D after good work from Lennard. Mids made some changes in the second half, and reshuffled the team - this created some opportunities for them, but the goals weren't to come, and as they pushed forward in desperation Taunton countered, and extended the lead, making it 5 - 2 - Mids were sunk. Will Christmas come early next week when they face league leaders Taunton Vale away from home?

Mid Somerset A – 9 East Devon B - 0 (28th November Push Back 13:30)

East Devon felt the full wrath of a hungry Mid's - virtually every member of the Mid's quad was available, and it really showed. Unfortunately for the visitors they got off on the wrong foot, and conceded two before their goal keeper made it to the pitch, despite a charitable delay of 20 minutes by the umpires Colin Crees and Alan Wilton. The pace of the Mid's strikers Pope and Lennard, who linked well and ran off the ball for each other was too much for East Devon, and when Pope, who scored five in total, lined up on the edge of the visitors D it didn't take the imagination of Thomas Edison to picture their keeper crossing his fingers, and closing his eyes, such was the barrage, and ferocity of his strikes. Harris joined in on the action adding one to his tally for the season, while Lennard notched up a hat-trick to make the total nine without reply! Although no doubt effective, Mid's didn't have it all their way, and East Devon, who had travelled with some quality players did contest the ball well in mid-field, making Dowden, French and Durston work hard for any time on the ball. As a team, Mid's have played prettier hockey but come away with only a point more than once this season. They're back to 7th in the league, with a game in hand, but with two tough away games before the holiday where will they become the new year?

Mid Somerset A 2 vs. 8 Isca C (14th November Push Back 13:30)

Mids started the game in good spirit after a great win the week before. They were missing a couple of key players due to other commitments, but lined up with a very strong 13 man squad.  Soon after the start of the game Isca brought Mids back down to earth after a strong fast attack which resulted in the 1st goal of the game. Mids had to pick themselves up quickly and not let this affect them. Within ten minutes Mids managed to take advantage of a poor midfield ball from Isca. French pounced on the loose ball, drove into the box and scored a goal into the far corner. Mids then made a couple of small errors themselves in midfield which left the defence with little chance and Isca scored a further 2 goals before half time. This meant Mids needed a positive team talk at half time to come out fighting. This wasn't to be. Mids went to sleep and Isca were too organised not to make them pay. Isca ran away from Mids and within ten minutes of the re start, Mids were staring down the barrel of an 8-1 deficit. Mids then went for bust and had a couple of chances later on. Andy Rogers then headed up front to score a consolation for Mids.

Bridgwater B – 2 Mid Somerset A – 3 (7th November 2009)

Mids travelled to Bridgwater knowing only a win would quash the feeling of disappointment that lingered over the team following two consecutive draws. Their opponents today, Bridgwater B sat just below them mid-table, and with Tom Grove's squad looked stronger than ever it had to be their day. The central Mid field of Steve Dowden, Joe Burnell and Ryan French made for a formidable combination, and from the push back these three worked hard to control the centre of the pitch, and distributed plenty of balls wide to Will Mandil, Dave Harris and Dan Burt, who rotated with each other. Dave Harris and Dan Burt worked hard, but it was the young Will Mandil who shone, latching onto balls and driving forward creating openings for strikers Dan Durston and in-form Callum Thorner. Dan was first to score for Mids, when he tidied up a spell of pressure in the Bridgwater's 25 after the home side failed to clear. Shortly after Steve Dowden received a ball to his open stick just inside of the D and with acres of space - he made it count, blasting Mids into a two nil lead before the half ended. Mids made good use of Steve's aerial ball, and Callum Thorner was working very hard latching onto nearly all of them in the second half. Unfortunately, Mids failed to clear a short corner, and with the Bridgwater goal came a lift in their spirits. Deep in the second half Bridgwater scored again, when some confusing in the box caused Mids keeper Nathan Burnell to leave a legitimate shot. Another draw would simply not do for the visitors, and with only a matter of a few minutes on the clock they pushed forward, and managed to score again through a stunning reverse hit from Callum Thorner on the edge of the D. Three points at last! Man of the match: Joe Burnell.

Mid Somerset A - 1 ECV Hornets C - 1 (31st October 2009)

Mids opponents this week were ECV Hornets C from Exeter, who currently sat pretty in joint top with both the Taunton teams. Mids narrowly missed out on earning the full 3 points last week in Devon, so rightly felt confident to take the game to ECV and score maximum points - enough to take them into the top third of the table. Mids started the game the far more composed side, playing the ball quickly to feet with few mistakes, forcing the visitors to work hard across the midfield and in defence where the home side pressed for an opportunity. Callum Thorner was the first with a clear sight of goal, and neatly slotting the ball home adding to a growing tally of goals. Ryan French, Graham Miller and Joe Burnell worked hard in midfield but with some unimaginative movement in the final third they were unable to create any real clear chances, and despite the majority of possession the score at half time remained 1 - 0 after Callum had a goal disallowed before the whistle. The second half was unlike the first, the possession was more evenly spread, the visitors looked more dangerous, and with repeated attacks down the right side they brought the best out of Dan Burt who stood in for Tony Bown in the Mids defence. Some lethargic back-tracking left the home sides defence outnumbered, and although the goal that did come for ECV had some controversy surrounding it, they deserved it, albeit that it shouldn't have been the goal that levelled the two teams, as the game ended a draw. Man of the match: Ryan French.

Mid Somerset A – 2 North Devon A - 2 (24th October 2009)

With North Devon sitting only one place ahead of Mids in the league table with just the extra point there was every chance for the visitors to leapfrog the homes side and climb to 4th this weekend. Andy Rogers made a welcomed return to Mids and played his first game this season after injury, which undoubtedly boosted the travellers’ confidence and reinforced the back line. In the first half the ball covered plenty of ground, with both teams sharing the play and creating chances at either end. Mids stuck first through Dave Lennard, only for his goal to be cancelled out by a well taken North Devon penalty flick before the half ended. By the second half the North Devon weather has thrown everything at the pitch but it all seemed to land on the shoulders of the homes side, and after a period of sustained pressure Callum Thorner finds the back of the net and regains the lead for Mids. With 10 minutes to go and another goal looking likely for Mids, North Devon deliver a painful blow, and take the only one, real opportunity they created in the second half to share the honours two apiece. Mids keeper Nathan Burnell was voted players man of the match. See them play at home next week as they take on third-in-the-table ECV Hornets at 1.30.

Mid Somerset A - 2  Ottery Crickets B - 1 (16th October 2009)

Prior to this match Ottery Crickets sat just one place above the home side, and the visitors were to be greeted by an ever strengthening Mids team; Steve Dowden, a former Mids A captain return to the fold, as did talisman Tommy Higgs, Tony Brown and Graham Miller, who all missed last week’s tie in Minehead. From the off Mids dominated the play, and it looked like a side that were going to win comfortably, but it took them longer than expected to score, the goal eventually coming curtsey of Dave Lennard. Early in the second half the visitors capitalised on an opportunity when Mids failed to clear their lines from a short corner. With less than 5 minutes on the clock it was Callum Thorner who slipped home the second, and finally secured the 3 points for Mids. Next week they travel all the way down to Barnstaple to take on North Devon A, whom, now are just a place ahead lying 4th in the table.

Mid Somerset A 1 -  Minehead 3 (10th October 2009)

With four keys players unavailable, the travelling Mids team knew this tricky encounter down on the coast; Minehead have always fielded a team with a strong physical presence, and in the past the games have not been very pretty affairs. Some poor back-tracking and Minehead attack that came in numbers saw them put three past Nathan Burnell in the Mids goal before the half ended, without reply. At the interval Mids were positive – they had played some nice hockey but failed to capitalize in front of goal, and knew they still had time. The second half was better, with most of the play taking place in the Minehead half, and the pressured finally paid off when Dave Lennard flicked Pete Ball’s shot beyond the reach of the keeper to make it 3 – 1, but despite their best efforts the scored stayed at 3 – 1. Their next match on Saturday is home (The Blue School) at 1.30.

Mid Somerset A 5 - 1 Chard A (3rd October 2009)

Mids found themselves in the luxurious position of having 13 men available for this encounter and a new keeper in the shape of Nathan Burnell - with the memory of putting 7 goals past Chard last year in a friendly hopes were high. In true, and very generous fashion the home team gave the visitors the first clear chance of goal, which Chard took without hesitation 0 - 1, a familiar start. The eleven men in burgundy and white pulled their socks up and dug in, earning a short corner shortly after falling behind: some short corner tactics just prior to the start between the forwards and Cameron Dunn paid off as Tommy Higgs helped himself to another, making it two goals in two games, a tally he would later add another two as the home side romped to five without conceding again. Ryan French took the paint off the back board when he nailed home one from a short corner, and Graham Miller opened his account for Mid Somerset with a nice strike in the second half. Next week they're travelling to Minehead looking to build on Saturday's thumping 5 - 1 victory. Good luck!

Mids A 1 – Taunton Vale C 5 (26th September 2009 Push back 15:00)

The result on paper doesn’t do this contest justice; the possession was quite evenly shared, and the game for the best part was played from end-to-end. Unfortunately, for the home side they lacked the killer instinct of Taunton Vale, and with the visitors having far more chances in front of goal the result was only going one way, indeed had it not been for a very good performance from the make-shift keeper Tom Grove the defeat would have been far more painful a pill to swallow. None of the five Taunton goals could have been described as ‘pretty’, but there isn’t a column in the league table for pretty goals! Tommy Higgs was the scorer of the home team’s only goal that came at a time when everything was still to play for. The two’s welcomed a much needed injection of new players to the team in the shape of Rob Newman, Graham Miller and Tony Brown, all three put in good performances. Good luck on Saturday, when they meet Chard A at home for a 3pm push back.
